Robert Smith
Robert Smith, leader of England’s the Cure, is probably better known for his quirky lyrical visions and recently-shorn dead-tarantula hairdo than for his guitar playing. He’s led the Cure over the course of 10 years, seven albums and seven different lineups. The current five-man edition of the group, which has been together since 1985, has accumulated a sizeable following of American fans, many of whom look to the Cure as fashion innovators, a trend Smith attempted to slave off with his recent haircut. "We’re not difficult on purpose." Says Smith. "We’re difficult for private reasons."
