The Cure now seem to have come full circle, from off-beat eccentrics through the dark, somber sounds of ‘Faith’ and ‘Pornography’ to the more positive quirkiness of their recent work. The re-release of ‘Boys Don’t Cry’, re-sung and re-mixed (there are a lot of re’s on this record!) seems to be a recognition of this transition, highlighting both their progress and consistency over the last seven years. A well worked, if somewhat stretched on the 12", version that is a welcome sound, though something new would be equally welcome.
