Another outfit that just keeps getting better, and stays unpredictable to boot. On their third single they find a middle ground between the wall-eyed starkness of the first and the mellifluous melancholy of the second. Rapidly locomotivating bass and drums and bile-soaked vocals are offset by delicate, bittersweet guitar. "Train" rides into the run-off grooves over a jarring, percussive clattering. (Bigger and Better Dept.: The Cure has just switched bassists and added a keyboard player.)
