Speaking of Robert Smith, his own band (i.e., Laurence Tolhurst) has four new tracks out. Add both sides of last year’s semi-popular "Let’s Go To Bed" single, previously released on Important and Sire, and you’ve got this six-song extravaganza. The new stuff confirms "Let’s Go To Bed"’s direction - no, not the four-poster, although that could be in "The Upstairs Room" as well. Smith’s oversensitive pulling makes even a love song ("Upstairs Room") sound petulant. His and Tolhurst’s smooth, shimmering playing goes well with the emotional monochrome. Best taken in small doses.
